Mary Lou has been with the Law Office of Lisa Vance since 2013, and the focus of her career has been on navigating the complex intersection of domestic violence and contested custody litigation.
Mary Lou began her litigation career as a federal law clerk for the Honorable Ron Clark, U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Texas, Beaumont Division, then she joined a Dallas-based products liability defense firm, defending car manufacturers against claims of product defects. In 2006, Mary Lou began practicing family law exclusively when she joined Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid, Inc. as an associate attorney. There, she exclusively represented victims of domestic violence who had developed the courage to leave their abusers and enter the court system to protect themselves and their children with divorce, SAPCR, and protective order litigation.
As a family lawyer, Mary Lou is particularly invested in advocating for her clients so long as their desires are consistent with the children’s best interests. She is a fierce advocate both in court and during settlement negotiations. She will often work with mental health professionals, in addition to her clients, to come up with creative and effective solutions benefitting children as they navigate their “new normal” family structures.
She is incredibly straight forward with clients, colleagues, and opposing counsel, and will work tirelessly to reach a reasonable and long lasting solution.
